Take It To The Big Screen.

In the movie montage above we have selected scenes from Casablanca, Serendipity, The Dark Knight, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Match Point, Lost, and The Family Stone, making our own mini-movie out of the most serendipitous moments we could fit in. Below, we have selected a few others that didn't fit into our time slot. Grab some popcorn, and enjoy!

Serendipity.

The movie Serendipity, one of our inspirations for picking the word as our topic, is a perfect example of two people meeting as a result of many coincidences that some would refer to as fate.  Sarah, a woman from London, and Jonathan, a native New Yorker, meet when reaching for the last pair of black cashmere gloves in a department store.  After they spend the night together they conclude that if they were really meant to be, fate would bring them together again.  They then decide to leave each other clues so one day they might be united again.

Sliding Doors.

The idea of Serendipity is fortunate accidents.  When you miss a train for example, it may unknowingly be a fortunate accident that will change your entire life.  In the movie Sliding Doors you see two different versions of Helen's life.  One, what would have happened if she made the train, and two, what would have happened if she missed the train.  In this interesting and creative movie you are left questioning whether our actions really matter or if we all have a destiny that will eventually lead us to the same place.

Mr. Destiny

Just My Luck.

In this teen comedy, luck is taken to an extreme. Normally, one doesn't have full out good luck or bad luck. The great thing about movies is that anything can happen, and this film is a great example.

The Parent Trap.

The serendipity displayed in the Parent Trap is what makes this movie so lovable.  Have you ever been surprised when you meet someone with your birthday?  Imagine meeting a strranger who you learn to be your twin!   When two girls at the same sleep away camp are forced to live in isolation together they soon discover that they are sisters, separated when babies by their parents.  The two girls then decide to switch places at the end of the summer and attempt to reunite their family.  The many coincidences which brought these two girls together greatly displays the magic and wonder of Serendipity.

It Could Happen To You.

The relationship between this movie and our topic is just about as in your face as it can get, but we have a personal edge to share. Our interview with John Sharp, the Upstate New York lottery winner, watch this movie exactly ten years movie before he won. Not only was he a cop, but he found that his life began to imitate that of the protagonist's, such as his personal life. Creepy or what?

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

This universally loved movie was the inspiration behind the placement of the chocolate bar under one lucky audience member's seat. Just like Charlie, the lucky winner got a delicious chocolate bar (wrapped in gold foil, of course), and not just any ordinary chocolate bar, it was from the legendary Serendipity3 NYC itself.
